V-Belt

What is a V Belt?

V-belt, or V-shaped belt, is a unique type of conveyor belt, a mechanical device used to transmit force and transport items. The V drive belt has the advantages of easy installation, small footprint, high transmission efficiency and low noise.

Types of V-Shape Belts

V-belt is a generic name for the ring-shaped transmission belt with trapezoidal section, divided into two categories: special core V-belt and ordinary V-belt.
According to its cross-sectional shape and size, it can be divided into common V-belt, narrow V-belt, wide V-belt and multi-ribbed belt, etc.; according to the structure of the belt body, it can be divided into cloth-covered V-belt and cut edge V-belt; according to the structure of the belt core, it can be divided into cord fabric core V-belt and rope core V-belt. The V-shaped conveyor belt is mainly used in the power transmission of mechanical equipment driven by electric motors and internal combustion engines.
V-belt is a kind of transmission belt. General industrial V-belt is a common V-belt, narrow V-belt and combined V-belt.
The working surface is the two sides in contact with the wheel groove.

Pros and Cons of V-Belts

An ordinary V-belt is a kind of annular transmission belt with a trapezoidal cross-section, which is suitable for power transmission with a small center distance and large transmission ratio and is widely used in textile machinery, machine tools, and general power transmission.

The advantages of V-Belt drive Transmission

(1) The belt is an elastomer that can moderate the load impact, smooth operation without noise.
(2) Ooverload will cause the belt to slip on the pulley and thus can play a role in protecting the whole machine.
(3) Manufacturing and installation accuracy are not as strict as the mesh drive, easy maintenance, and no lubrication.
(4) The length of the belt can be increased to adapt to the working conditions of a large center distance.

The disadvantages of the V-shape Belt Transmission

(1) The elastic sliding of the belt and pulley makes the transmission ratio inaccurate, less efficient and shorter life.
(2) transfer the same large circumferential force, the outer dimensions and shaft pressure are larger than the meshing transmission.
(3) Not suitable for high temperature and flammable occasions.

What is a V Belt Used For?

V-belts are used for power transmission in a number of industries. They can be found in automobile engines, water pumps, air conditioning compressors, and radiator fans.

How to Measure a V Belt?

A V belt is an industrial component that transmits mechanical energy between pulleys. It is essential for equipment to run. However, they wear out with use and stress. To make sure they last as long as possible, it is important to measure them properly. By doing so, you can ensure that they are replacements fit for your particular application.
The first thing you should do when measuring your belt is to mark the length. You can do this with a string or cloth tape measure. This method is one of the simplest ways to measure a belt. But it is not as accurate as a v belt measuring tool.

Measuring V Belts

Another way to measure a belt is to wrap a fabric tape measure around the outside of the belt. Make sure the tape is tight against the back of the belt. Also, be careful not to rest the tape along the side of the belt. If the tape is skewed, your measurements may be off.
The next thing you should do is measure the width. You can do this with a straight ruler or a fabric tape measure. Be careful not to rest the tape along the side of the belt since it will skew your measurements.
You should also measure the depth of your V belt. A cogged V-belt will have additional grooves along the inner bands. These grooves help the belt grip the pulleys better and maximize power transfer.
