Tractor PTO Slip Clutch Friction Torque Limiter

The tractor PTO shaft slip clutch (Friction Torque Limiter) is a coil spring clutch used to limit the amount of torque transmitted at a calibrated value by slipping the friction disc while maintaining power transmission. It also helps to absorb peak torques during the start-up of high-inertia machines.
Torque limitation is ensured by the slipping of the PTO slip clutch assembly over 2 or 4 discs of special material (asbestos-free). The value of the calibrated torque can be adjusted by modifying the compression height of the coil springs. A PTO safety slip clutch is supplied with 2 or 4 friction discs and works in both directions of rotation.

How Does a PTO Slip Clutch Work?

The basic function of this PTO safety slip clutch is to protect tractor implements. When a tractor implement becomes jammed due to a heavy workload or securing a load, the PTO will continue spinning and cause irreversible damage to the implement. A tractor PTO slip clutch engages between two friction plates and takes the load off the implement, thus protecting it from costly damage. Each implement has its own unique tension settings.

In order to test a slip clutch, the center of the PTO shaft must be 6.75 feet away from the eye bolt of the spring scale.
