Structure of a Lemon PTO Shaft

1. Tubes or pipes

We have supplied lemon profile tubes for all the series we offer.

We also stock star-shaped tubes, triangular-shaped tubes, spline tubes, and other profiled tubes (of a certain series) requested by our customers.

If you want a tube other than lemon or star or triangular, please provide drawings or pictures.

2. End Yokes

We have several types of quick-release yokes and plain hole yokes. We will recommend the commonly used types of PTO end yoke for your reference.

If you can't find your item in our catalog, you can also send us drawings or pictures.

3. Safety device or clutch

We offer a wide range of PTO torque limiters such as ratchet torque limiter (SA), shear bolt torque limiter (SB), 3 types of friction torque limiter (FF, FFS, FCS) and override coupler (adapter) (FAS). We also provide safety chains and shields.

PTO Shaft Measurement

The exact way to determine which series PTO you have is to take two measurements of the cross and bearing kit on the tractor end of the drive train. You will need a caliper to first measure the outside diameter of the u-joint cap, which is the same as measuring the inside bore of the yoke lugs. Second, measure the u-joint end-to-end in two ways. Use the cross and bearing identification charts (metric or North American) to match these measurements and easily identify the remaining PTO components needed for the complete driveline required.

Maintenance and Replacement of PTO Shaft

Lemon-shaped PTO shafts are dangerous and can cause fatalities. Proper safety procedures are necessary for operator safety when operating PTO tractors. Operators should use the proper driveline and avoid over-telescoping the shaft. Slip clutches must also be adjusted carefully. An improperly adjusted slip clutch can expose the operator to a lemon-shaped PTO shaft. If you do not follow these simple safety precautions, your risk of an accidental lemon-shaped PTO shaft is high. Much like a fluid-hydraulic mechanism, the PTO drive system will eventually fail and require replacement or repair due to the rigors of everyday farming projects. When it is time to replace or repair a PTO driveline, it is important to select the correct components for the specific equipment being used.

In order to properly select replacement parts, you need to know the answers to the following four questions about your particular driveline.

1. What type of equipment will the driveline be used for?
2. What are the individual driveline components that need to be replaced?
3. What is the shape of the shaft and tube? (This indicates whether the driveline is North American or metric).
4. What is the size of the cross kit? (This determines the driveline series).

Lubrication

Frequent lubrication is required. Grease the driveline shaft parts at hourly intervals as indicated on the drawing.

Before installing a lemon PTO shaft, check for yokes and snap rings. In addition to the yokes, you need to check for the size and horsepower. When determining the size, look for a safety chain or shield to prevent accidents. Some lemon PTO shafts have both internal and external yokes. The former is welded to the drive end, while the latter has a "Y" shape attached to a U-joint. In older models, the female holes may be easier to find, while the latter is welded to the drive end.
