Guide to Precision Roller Chains and Their Various Links

Roller chains are an essential element in many machinery systems, providing reliable and efficient power transmission. Among these, the Precision stands out due to its unique features and exceptional performance. This utilizes a variety of links, each designed to cater to specific needs and conditions.

Connecting Website Link – Press Match (BS/DIN/ANSI)

The standard connecting link for ANSI series detachable chains is also appropriate for use on riveted chains. These chains are particularly suitable where high speeds or harsh conditions are encountered. Each connecting link is provided with two pins that are riveted to the outer plate. The other outer plate is a press fit onto these pins, and is secured by split pins after assembly. However, it's crucial to remember that press fit connecting links can only be used once; new links must always be used to replace dismantled links.

Cranked Links

Cranked links are another type of link used in roller chains. These are utilized where the chain length needs to be an odd number of pitches. However, this practice is not recommended. All drives should, wherever possible, be designed with sufficient overall adjustment to ensure the use of an even number of pitches in the chain. It's also important to note that cranked links should not be used on impulsive, highly loaded, or high-speed drives.

Cranked Link – Slip Match (BS/DIN) Offset Link – Slip Match (ANSI)

This type of link features cranked plates pressed onto a bush and roller assemble at the narrow end. A clearance fit connecting pin is fitted at the wide end, secured by a split pin. This design allows for easy assembly and disassembly, providing flexibility in various applications.

Cranked Link Double (BS/DIN) Two Pitch Offset Link (ANSI)

Double cranked links are available for most sizes and types of chain. This unit consists of an inner link, with cranked links retained permanently in position by a riveted bearing pin. Screw-operated extractors break the chain by forcing the end softened bearing pins from the outer link plates. To use these links with other brands of chain, the rivet swell must first be ground away.
